Solar Arts Building Wedding

A Northeast Minneapolis Winter Wedding

This was my first time shooting a Solar Arts Building wedding.  I loved the space, which is nearby an art studio space that I’ve visited for Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl and countless other times, the Casket Arts Building.  The space is run by Chowgirls and close to the epicenter of all the vibrant creative energies within Northeast Minneapolis.  It ranks up there as a favorite MN winter wedding at one of the best wintertime Minneapolis wedding venues. This festive date was a fantastic way to spend New Years Eve and I loved the mix of the holiday and a beautiful wedding.

New Years Eve Wedding Details

As my first New Years Eve wedding, there was a wealth of elegant & fun details to capture.  I always spend a good deal of time styling these details shots.  A lot of it has to do with the elements involved and the lighting.  I do have a sense of what types of images I’m after with these shots, though.  For instance, I used the veil as a styling tool for many of the details shots, giving the collection a soft & ethereal look.

NYE Wedding Portraits

When shooting a winter wedding, it’s inevitable that many of the wedding portraits will be captured inside.  Therefore, it’s important to have some good window light, particularly when shooting film.  I diffused the light with the ivory ceremony backdrop and really loved some of the portraits here.   The benefit of shooting some portraits inside is that you have somewhat more control of the light & really deliver a defined look.
